Agghhh but it isn't a Chevy. It's a mower. You cannot be told a specific measurement and it be right thats why ARC supplies so many shims with the flywheel when they sell it. Due to block imperfections (Casting) no two are identicle. I shim mine so the two are with in .010 of bottoming out in the gears pitch. Does that make sense. AND you can't really measure that with a feeler gauge you have to eye ball it. I pull the starter pinion up with a small screw driver with it bolted on to check this.  If I don't like it I shim it differently then recheck it.
